Summary Statement

The Zoo Grounds Keeper position will be responsible for cleaning the restrooms(check and re-clean as needed), empty trash cans minimum once a day more if needed, take trash to the dumpster daily, check and restock supplies, patrol grounds for litter, answer public questions and offer assistance.  Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. This position is required to operate light duty equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers and other lawn equipment. Other duties may include painting, pressure washing, assisting with unloading deliveries, snow removal, minor repairs, cleaning gutters and other duties as assigned.  Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled.

Essential Functions

  • Performs grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, landscape bed maintenance, trash removal, vegetation removal, leaf removal and snow/ice removal.
  • Performs custodial services in restrooms, offices and other buildings.
  • Operation of landscaping equipment and use of hand and power tools.
  • Set-up, monitoring and clean-up support for park programs and special events.
  • Maintains good public relations with park visitors and staff.
  • Provide excellent customer service and park information to visitors.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as required.

Job Requirements

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Experience using landscaping equipment and hand or power tools.
  3. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Conditions of Hire

Must provide proof of negative Tuberculosis Test within the last 12 months before start date.
