Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement

The Delaware Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General, seeks a Deputy Attorney General to join our phenomenal team in the newly constituted Conviction Integrity Unity and serve as Assistant Unit Head with a focus on postconviction relief petitions, including pardons, commutations, compassionate release, and expungements.  The Deputy Attorneys General in this Unit are responsible for drafting motions and briefs, conducting research, and representing the State in Court hearings.  This is a Unit with a high volume of cases.

Essential Functions

The primary focus of this Assistant Unit Head position will be to manage a demanding caseload of post-conviction petition responses, coordinate with fellow deputy attorneys general for input and supervise support staff working on pardons, commutations, compassionate release, and expungements.  This unique position will also offer the opportunity to cross-train with the Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust on claims of wrongful conviction.

As an Assistant Unit Head, this individual will carry a caseload and also assist the Unit Head in the directing and managing of other administrative and support operations within the Unit, coordination of assignments and training for all unit members, and other managerial tasks as needed.

Job Requirements

A qualified candidate’s strengths will include experience prosecuting criminal cases and experience with pardons, commutations and expungements is strongly preferred. Additional strengths will include a strong knowledge of criminal law and procedure, the ability to evaluate legal issues with accurate and effective legal research.  Candidates must have the ability to learn and apply the relevant laws and court rules.   Candidates must also have or be able to develop a good working relationship with other Deputy Attorneys General, support staff and Court personnel.  Membership in Delaware Bar required.
