Summary Statement

The incumbent in this position provides grounds keeping services and routine maintenance work on the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill campus. Duties include, but are not limited to, snow removal and storm recovery.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Performs under close supervision routine maintenance of lawn, flowers, shrubs and trees involving planting, transplanting, weeding, mulching, pruning, mowing and trimming.
     
  • Removes snow/ice from driveways, steps and walkways; rakes leaves; removes trash, debris, materials and supplies.
     
  • Assists in the maintenance of driveways by sweeping, grading and repairing holes; painting and repairing tables and benches.
     
  • May assist trades personnel in painting, minor repairs as required.
     
  • Operates and maintains a variety of equipment and hand tools including mowers, tractors, saws, sprayers, edgers, grass shears and trimmers.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Groundskeeper I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of operating groundskeeping or landscaping equipment such as mowers, tractors, saws, sprayers, pruners, edgers, grass shears and trimmers.

Conditions of Hire

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

Upon a conditional offer, the applicant must undergo a pre-employment base line two step tuberculin skin test (TST) as part of the hiring process.

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization).  The candidate selected for this position shall be asked to join and pay dues to the labor organization or may, decline joining the labor organization and not pay dues or a fee.  The labor organization has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other work related purposes.
