Summary Statement

This position provides support to the unit to which assigned. The candidate is responsible for scheduling appointments for clients and assisting with transportation. They will assist with office coverage when needed and handle coverage calls. They should have a knowledge of local services and be able to direct clients to needed services in the absence of the case manager. They may visit clients in a variety of environments which include the home and school. They also monitor and supervise visitation between parent and the children and ensure child safety, while reporting observations to the case manager. The candidate will be responsible for entering placements and other info into FOCUS.

Essential Functions

  • Schedules appointments for clients and transports to required location (hospital, court, therapy session) provides coaching and assists client; provides support and encouragement to obtain desired outcome.
  • Provides office and telephone coverage in absence of case manager and refers problem to appropriate party.
  • Visits clients in a variety of environments such as home, school, observing behavior, and reporting to Case Manager.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of records and forms required by case manager to provide the necessary services to the client.
  • Monitors behavior of child and parents on parental visits and insures safe interaction.
  • May interview and obtain basic information from clients such as dates of birth or social security numbers of family members.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Family Service Assistant I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Coursework, training and/or work experience in health or human services support such as interviewing clients and assessing personal, health, social or financial needs in accordance with program requirements or coordinating with community resources to obtain client services.

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable terms and conditions of employment, in accordance with Title 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapter 13 and 16.  This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
