Summary Statement

The Delaware Judicial Branch is committed to championing diversity, equity, and inclusion as a priority for the Delaware courts. The DEI Officer is a new position located within the Administrative Office of the Courts and will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive, strategic, and programmatic vision that advances and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the Delaware Judicial Branch. Under the guidance of the Chief Justice and State Court Administrator, the DEI Officer will drive the execution of the Judicial Branch's DEI strategy.

Essential Functions

The DEI Officer will be responsible for constructing a foundational program that promotes the Judicial Branch's core DDEI values. The DEI Officer will also:
  • Work closely with the Chief Justice and State Court Administrator to develop policies an strategies to achieve diversity, equity, and inclusion in all Delaware courts and the Delaware Bar as set forth in the Strategic Plan Report and Recommendations dated January 31, 2022. 
  • Work with Human Resources and Training staff to strengthen and enhance existing DEI training and develop new training consistent with the Judicial Branch's vision. 
  • Work with Planning and Research staff to develop metrics for measuring the effectiveness of the Judicial Branch's DEI initiatives and prepare reports on the value of the existing strategies. 
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with other State and local government entities and community organizations, including the Delaware State Bar Association. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with peers in other jurisdictions to further the development and implementation of strategies and programs in the Delaware Judicial Branch.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate must have:

1. A Bachelor’s degree or higher

OR

2. Five years or more of professional human resources experience;

AND

1. Three or more years relevant experience in the field of diversity, equity, and inclusion

2. Knowledge of the requirements under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA)

3. Demonstrable high-level organizational aptitude and collaborative leadership qualities.

4. An understanding of national and regional trends in diversity, equity, and inclusion and engagement with relevant professional associations

5. Proven ability to create and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies in a complex organization.

6. Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
