Introduction
Fort Delaware is a Civil War era river defense site that served as a prisoner-of-war facility during the American Civil War. The fort reveals remarkable stories of human achievement, tenacity, and endurance.
Summary Statement
This seasonal position will be responsible for assisting with the arrival and departure of guests to Pea Patch Island /Fort Delaware. This includes accommodating guest who require assistance to the tram or require special transportation from the pier area to Fort Delaware via alternative transportation vehicles. Responsibilities may also include assisting in the transportation of items to the pavilion area to accommodate those renting the pavilion for various events. This seasonal position will also assist in the safe arrival and departure of the tram from the loading/unloading area at the front of Fort Delaware. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled and must be willing to work about boats and water.
Essential Functions

- Provide customer services by explaining regulations, answering visitor requests, needs and complaints, and providing information about the park and surrounding areas.
- Facilitate arrival and departure of guests in a safe and orderly fashion during the 10 daily occurrences daily where there are quest arriving and departing in the same limited time frame.
- Monitor the pier area docking pier – preventing guests from entering lower dock area during Delafort docking.
- Assist with safe arrivals and departures the tram makes on the hour and half hour from the front of Fort Delaware. This includes the safe departure from the fort where guests are present around the arrival and departure area.
- Assist with monitoring and implementing safety protocols for the “range area” during the daily firing of the Columbiad.
- Trained as a backup tram operator to cover absenteeism and provide breaks for the tram driver on duty.
- Will monitor radio communications between Fort Delaware ticket office, Delafort ferry and tram driver to proactively react to situations or needs.
- Assist with pavilion rental logistics.
- Assist in the daily housekeeping of the restrooms and grounds around Fort Delaware.
- Serve as a back up to revenue staff in the Sutler Shop as well as providing breaks throughout the day.
- Ensures public safety through regular inspection of park facilities and grounds.
- Provide CPR/First Aid if needed - training will be provided.
- Maintain a positive attitude, be passionate about state parks, and have fun.
- Other duties as required.
Job Requirements

Applicants for all positions must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Facility Coordinator
- Six months experience coordinating special events.
- Six months experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.
- Six months experience in cash handling, writing receipts.
- Knowledge of contract management and control which includes compliance with terms of contracts.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
