The DNREC-Remediation Section manages and assists with clean-up and restoration of chemical release sites, including brownfield and hazardous substances sites. It assists with voluntary cleanup and corrective actions.

This position will be project lead in development, implementation, and coordination of a plan to address emerging contaminants including per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are a group of synthetic chemicals. This role will include researching and compiling state of the science, creating Standard Operating Procedures for sampling, training staff on the PFAS Team, collecting field samples from natural and man-made media, compiling and interpreting emerging contaminant data and presenting these findings. The position will manage investigation and clean-up of sites under the Hazardous Substance Cleanup Act.  Position functions include participation in public meetings and communication and coordination with public and private stakeholders.

• Collects, analyzes, and interprets field samples, scientific literature and statistical data. 
   
• Supervises and documents the installation of wells; inspects and compiles data regarding existing wells, waste disposal sites, and underground storage facilities.
   
• Summarizes data used in studies, projects, plans, specifications and research.
   
• Performs mathematical calculations to aid in the selection of alternatives.
   
• Reviews and comments on permit applications.
   
• Provides technical and regulatory information.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Hydrologist III
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Geology, Hydrology or related field.
2. Three years experience in hydrogeology and stratigraphy.
3. Six months experience in environmental or natural resources project management which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating environmental or natural resources projects to ensure objectives are met.
4. Six months experience in designing and conducting hydrologic data collection projects such as geologic descriptions, water levels and water samples.
5. Six months experience in analyzing and interpreting hydrogeologic data and making technical recommendations.
6. Three years experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
7. Six months experience in technical report writing.
