Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal investigators, social workers, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement

This Legal Administrative Specialist provides secretarial support to Deputy Attorneys General in the Family Division, Juvenile Delinquency/Truancy Unit, in New Castle County.  This Administrative Specialist creates and compiles criminal files, types a variety of documents and correspondence to victims and attorneys; photocopies and organizes complex documents, files/cases, and manages a large volume of files for trial support on a daily and weekly basis.  This position may also assist in administrative coverage for the Department at the Courthouse.  This position will be included in the rotation schedule for the Department’s Main Receptionist telephones in New Castle County.

Career Ladder

This class series uses three levels of work in the Administrative Services occupational group, Legal Services occupational series and describes work involving administrative and judicial proceedings regarding civil, regulatory, and/or criminal law. Work involves providing an agency's management staff or professional legal staff of legal support work.

Salary: 
Pay Grade 9 Salary Range $32,712/min $40,890/mid $49,068/max 
Pay Grade 10 Salary Range $34,887/min $43,609/mid $52,331/max 
Pay Grade 12 Salary Range $39,682/min $49,602/mid $59,522/max 
(Starting salary will commensurate with experience per State of Delaware pay scale)

  • Applies agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures in maintaining and processing agency information.
  • Serves as a liaison with the public, clients, agency staff and others to exchange information and explain agency services, laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Assures effective coordination of operational functions for assigned unit/attorneys.
  • Arranges for the delivery of legal paperwork.
  • Types correspondence and legal paperwork.
  • Schedules, coordinates and confirms court dates, appointments, interviews, intakes, and meetings.

 

Job Requirements

  1. Possession of an Associate’s degree or higher.
  2. Please describe the number of years and the experience you have in coordinating office activities such as planning/coordinating meetings or conferences; tracking workflow and follow up; composing meeting notes; directing clients/customers; explaining services to the public and customers/clients; establishing or maintaining filing/record systems.
  3. Please describe the number of years and the experience you have in document processing which includes reviewing and evaluating records for completeness and conformity with laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures, resolve deficiencies, interpret information, and track and monitor activities.
  4. Please describe the number of years and the experience you have in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.
  5. Please describe the number of years and the experience you have using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.

  • Must be detail-oriented, well organized and proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must be able to multi-task throughout a high volume of work demands and deadlines for multiple Deputy Attorney Generals.
  • Must have the ability to interact professionally with members of the public, including victims, witness, police and probation officers, in addition to working professionally with Court personnel and maintaining productive working relationships with Court staff.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality on criminal intelligence data and sensitive cases.  
  • Must possess excellent spelling, grammar and proofreading skills.
  • Must be able to answer telephones and take accurate messages.
