Cape Henlopen's beaches attract thousands of visitors who enjoy everything from ocean swimming, boating, fishing, and kayaking to clamming, paddle-boarding and wind-surfing. But Cape Henlopen offers more than just the ocean and bays.  A wide selection of activities and programs for children and adults are led by Seaside Nature Center staff each week.

Summary Statement

A variety of seasonal park positions are available at Cape Henlopen State Park, which may include the following:

Campground Registrar/Store Attendants: responsible for all aspects of camp registration, database management, and camp store operations.

Custodial/Grounds: responsible for the custodial cleaning of bathrooms, facilities, and offices, along with the maintenance of grounds, facilities, and equipment in the park.

Facility Coordinator - responsible for the overall management and operation of the youth facilities, weddings, special events, and seasonal staff housing.

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled to meet facility needs.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.

  • May collect appropriate rental fees.
  • May register campers into computer database and generate reports as needed.
  • Show facilities to potential clients, repairmen; conduct check in and check out procedures.
  • Schedule groups for the Youth Camps, Primitive Camp, and staff dorm as well as facilitate sites, and follow up with appropriate paperwork.
  • May assist with maintenance and rental equipment.
  • Provide excellent customer service and park information to visitors.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Duties will vary for each position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Applicants for all positions must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

Campground Registrar/Store Attendants/Office Staff

  1. Six months customer service experience.
  2. Six months experience in cash handling and writing receipts.
  3. Six months experience in standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.

Maintenance – Custodial/Grounds

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Experience using landscaping equipment and hand or power tools. (Grounds only)
  3. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving. 

Facility Coordinator

  1. Six months experience in interpreting rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  2. Six months experience in office operations and functions.
  3. Six months experience in cash handling or writing receipts.
  4. Six months experience using Microsoft Office Programs including Outlook, Excel, and Publisher.
