 Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) is now offering a Sign-On Bonus of $6,000 to Advanced Practice Registered Nurses!

The program provides incentives as follows

  • Recruitment incentives will be paid in quarterly installments over the first year of hire and will begin after the first quarter of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DHSS. 
  • Referral bonuses of $1,000 are available to current DHSS employees who refer new hires to the state, and will be paid in quarterly installments over the first year of the referred applicant. 

NOTE: You must be a new employee to the State of Delaware to be eligible for the Sign-On Bonus. This program is administered by the Department of Health and Social Services. The program will run through June 30, 2022, but may be terminated by the State at any time.

Summary Statement

This position provides nursing services such as assessments, education, exams, vaccinations or injections, referrals and health counseling.  Services may be provided in any of the following areas as assigned: tuberculosis prevention and control, HIV/AIDS case management, child health, immunizations, adult health, or sexual and reproductive health. Services will be provided in a clinic or community-based setting. This position participates in community flu clinics and disaster response and may provide services at other locations in Kent or Sussex to support operational needs.

Essential Functions

  • Provides or evaluates direct nursing care.
     
  • Develops, implements and/or reviews nursing care plans.
     
  • Provides health care instruction and guidance to individuals, families, community groups and/or nursing home facilities in the management of their health care needs.
     
  • Maintains an effective working relationship with other members of the treatment team.
     
  • Prepares and submits records, reports, evaluations and forms. 
     
  • Participates in and make recommendations regarding quality assurance activities. 

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Delaware Advanced practice Nurse license or temporary permit for a Delaware Advanced Practice Nurse license in the specialty area of Family Nurse Practitioner.

Due to a new Interim Federal Rule (IFR) from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) the following mandate is effective Nov. 19, 2021, as a condition of employment, employees providing health care services and/or support services in covered facilities must show proof that they have received the first dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or the one-dose COVID-19 vaccine of a one-dose vaccine by December 6, 2021; or as of December 6, an employee may not provide any care, treatment, or other services until proof is provided. The IFR further requires that these employees (covered by the IFR) are required to be fully vaccinated and provide proof by January 4, 2022; or as of January 4, 2022, employees may not provide any care, treatment, or other services until proof is provided.   The only exception to these requirements is for those employees granted medical or religious exemptions from the COVID-19 vaccine as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which may require weekly COVID-19 testing. This will be in effect until further notice.  More information can be found here.

Conditions of Hire

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization).  The candidate selected for this position shall be asked to join and pay dues to the labor organization or may, decline joining the labor organization and not pay dues or a fee.  The labor organization has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other work related purposes.
