The Division of Parks and Recreation is a two-time National Gold Medal Award winner for best managed state park system in the country.  The Division oversees more than 27,000 acres in 17 state parks, the Brandywine Zoo and the Indian River Marina.  The Division manages 10 state nature preserves, and 12 other sites outside of the parks and monitors over 100 conservation easements protecting more than 4,000 acres of land. The Division protects cultural and historic resources and provides a wide variety of recreational facilities for Delawareans and visitors.

Summary Statement

Join the team at Delaware State Parks as an Administrative Specialist supporting the Operations section! This position works directly with the Operations Office Manager while supporting operations across all 17 of Delaware's state parks, including programming and interpretation, volunteer coordination, and public-facing communication. Day-to-day responsibilities include receiving and responding to public inquiries, processing administrative paperwork such as Fleet driver information, travel requests, and invoices, and assisting with a variety of support activities — composing official correspondence, drafting and distributing communications, coordinating workflow, addressing inquiries and concerns, and contributing to research, special projects, and data management.

While this is primarily an office-based role, it occasionally includes the opportunity to visit Delaware's state parks and see firsthand the attractions and natural spaces that the work helps support.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as a welcoming point of contact for the public, clients, and staff, providing information and clearly explaining agency services, policies, and procedures
  • Provide telephone support
  • Filing, document creation/editing, data entry, paperwork tracking
  • Apply and explain agency services, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures
  • Take meeting minutes
  • Demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills
  • Maintain filing and data systems to ensure that operational, program, and project records are accurate, current, and easy to retrieve.
  • May assist with offsite tabling events 
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

Administrative Support

  1. Six months customer service experience.
  2. Six months experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.
  3. Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
