Introduction

The Division of Fish & Wildlife conserves and manages Delaware’s fish and wildlife and their habitats, and provides fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing and boating access on nearly 65,000 acres of public land. 

Summary Statement

This position acts as the bat project assistant and volunteer coordinator and is the lead technician for several bat-related projects, including passive acoustic NABat compatible survey design and execution, maintaining long-term bat acoustic stations, conducting driving transects, possibly assisting with or leading bat catches, and assisting with human-bat conflict resolution. Responsibilities will also include helping maintain bat databases including the use of GIS, assisting with report preparation, contacting landowners for permission to survey, and making sure supplies are maintained.. Volunteer coordination will include a variety of tasks including recruitment and training, helping volunteers set up their computers for acoustic transect surveys as well as providing feedback to volunteers. Will also assist with Delmarva fox squirrel photo monitoring, telemetry, and trapping. Duties may also include helping with other Fish and Wildlife projects. Applicants must be able to tolerate a highly variable work schedule and be comfortable walking and navigating off-trail through woodlands in difficult conditions.

  • Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects.
     
  • Collects field samples and data.
     
  • Provides technical information and assistance to the public and the regulated community.
     
  • Interprets rules and regulations for assigned area.
     
  • Reviews permit applications and supplemental paperwork for approval or recommendation for disapproval.
     
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.
     
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
     
  • May assist in processing biological samples.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Control Technician III 
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: 

  1. Six months experience in conducting field work to collect environmental or ecological samples and survey data.
  2. Six months experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
  3. Six months experience in math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
  4. Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  5. Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  6. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  7. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
