Summary Statement

The Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission is accepting applications for a Delaware Licensed Equine Veterinary Technician. This employee would be under the direct supervision of the Commission Veterinarians.

Applicants must have education, training, and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:


  1. Possession of a current Delaware Veterinary Technician license issued by the Delaware Veterinary Board.
  2. Ability to obtain and maintain required HISA/HIWU registration.
  3. At least two (2) years of experience working with equines, including handling, restraint, and sample collection.
  4. Knowledge of safe handling procedures for horses and standard veterinary practices for equine care.
  5. Knowledge of handling administrative tasks including recordkeeping, inventory management, and data entry.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating professionalism, ethical conduct, and integrity.

Additional Posting Information

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.

Must have availability to work race days (Wednesday–Saturday) and occasional Sundays for special events during the racing season (May through mid-October).

Must have the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and to perform duties that may require physical exertion, including lifting and restraining animals.

Conditions of Hire

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. As a condition of hire, applicants must agree to obtaining and maintaining Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) / Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU) registration.

All new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment. Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.

Selection Process
