Summary Statement

The Delaware Department of Agriculture is currently seeking to hire seasonal Environmental Control Technicians. This position will work in the Spotted Lanternfly and Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey programs to survey, plan, coordinate, and respond to exotic plant pests, plant diseases, and invasive species outbreaks. Technicians will work as part of a team to accomplish the daily operations of the Spotted Lanternfly and CAPS program. Duties will include inspecting plants on public and private property for plant pests, maintaining a network of insect traps throughout the state, assisting with the application of insecticides and herbicides on properties to manage plant pests, conducting inspections, collecting survey and inspection data and maintaining daily records of work completed.

  • Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects.
     
  • Collects field samples and data.
     
  • Provides technical information and assistance to the public and the regulated community.
     
  • Interprets rules and regulations for assigned area.
     
  • Reviews permit applications and supplemental paperwork for approval or recommendation for disapproval.
     
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.
     
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
     
  • May assist in processing biological samples.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Control Technician I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of conducting field work to collect samples and survey data.
  2. Knowledge of math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
  3. Knowledge of narrative report writing.
  4. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Additional Posting Information

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.

Conditions of Hire

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

All new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment. Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.
