Summary Statement

DTI is currently seeking motivated interns/externs to support our Service Support Specialists and partner agencies located in Dover, Delaware, and across Kent County. Our IT support teams play a critical role in keeping state operations running by delivering reliable technology services, responsive customer support, and innovative solutions that empower government employees to serve Delawareans effectively. The IT team uses a service‑focused, problem‑solving approach centered on reliability, communication, and partnership with state agencies. Interns will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced IT professionals, deepen their understanding of enterprise‑level technology environments, and make a meaningful impact by supporting critical operations for state agency partners.

This internship/externship provides a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in enterprise IT environments while working alongside technical professionals who support key agencies. Interns/Externs will develop real-world skills in technical troubleshooting, customer service, and collaborative problem-solving while contributing to technology services that impact government operations statewide.

Interns/Externs will gain hands-on experience in technical support, customer service, and cross‑agency collaboration. This role is ideal for students interested in:

Essential Functions

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and document computer‑related incidents to support timely issue resolution.
• Maintain an accurate and up‑to‑date knowledge base to ensure consistent service delivery.
• Provide hands‑on support for PC hardware, peripheral devices, and related equipment, including installation and repair.
• Assist with software support, including basic application troubleshooting, installations, updates, and user guidance.
• Perform additional technical tasks and project‑based assignments as directed by IT leadership.

Job Requirements

1. Currently attending a senior in high school or enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related technical field.

2. Currently seeking internship hours to fulfill degree or certification program requirements.

3. Seeking an externship opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a real-world enterprise IT environment.

4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable learning new software, tools, and ticketing systems.

5. Organized, detail‑oriented, and able to take initiative with routine tasks and technical troubleshooting.

6. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally when assisting users with technical issues.

7. Ability to apply customer service best practices such as active listening, empathy, and problem‑solving when supporting agency staff.

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check: A satisfactory fingerprint based criminal background check administered by the Delaware State Police is required as a Condition of Hire.
