Introduction

DNREC works to keep our waters clean and plentiful. It studies and finds ways to manage water as a functional part of the landscape, looking at individual watersheds and drainage areas. The agency works with homeowners, local governments and industry to avoid polluting surface water and ground water. It works to ensure clean and plentiful drinking water. And it provides grants and loans to support clean water planning and infrastructure projects.

Summary Statement

This position will review and assist section staff process subaqueous lands permit applications. Duties will include providing expertise related to stream restoration projects, review of dredge disposal sites, review the effect of the water column associated with dredging, and the review and evaluation of permit application for the installation of bridges and/or culverts and their hydrologic effects. This position will review, process, monitor, and manage all surface water intakes throughout the State pursuant to the Regulations Governing the Allocation of Water.

Essential Functions

  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets field samples, scientific literature and statistical data. 
     
  • Supervises and documents the installation of wells; inspects and compiles data regarding existing wells, waste disposal sites, and underground storage facilities.
     
  • Summarizes data used in studies, projects, plans, specifications and research.
     
  • Performs mathematical calculations to aid in the selection of alternatives.
     
  • Reviews and comments on permit applications.
     
  • Provides technical and regulatory information.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Hydrologist III
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Geology, Hydrology or related field.
  2. Three years experience in hydrogeology and stratigraphy.
  3. Six months experience in environmental or natural resources project management which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating environmental or natural resources projects to ensure objectives are met.
  4. Six months experience in designing and conducting hydrologic data collection projects such as geologic descriptions, water levels and water samples.
  5. Six months experience in analyzing and interpreting hydrogeologic data and making technical recommendations.
  6. Three years experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  7. Six months experience in technical report writing.
