DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife manages nearly 65,000 acres of land that provides habitat for a multitude of wild plants, animals, fish, insects and rare species of all kinds. It spearheads several important wildlife and habitat conservation and education initiatives, including the Wildlife Species Conservation and Research Program and the Delaware Shorebird Project.

Summary Statement

The Seasonal Natural Resources Enforcement Officer position will assist full-time officers enforcing applicable fishing, hunting and boating laws. Position will patrol by use of motor vehicle, foot, ATV, bicycle, and vessel.  Position will patrol in varying weather conditions while working around boats and water.  Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.  Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.

  • Vessel, vehicle, ATV and Bicycle patrol - Boating & fisheries violations.
  • Vessel, ATV, bicycle, and vehicle maintenance and operation.
  • Administration work - copying, filing, answering the phone.
  • Assist with apprehension, detention and arrest of violators.
  • Fisheries Inspection and Identification.
  • Public relations - outreach programs.
  • May appear in court.
  • Assist full time officers with daily patrol.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas.

  1. At least 18 years of age.
  2. Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  3. Experience in narrative report writing.
  4. Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
