Summary Statement

Responsible for daily operations of Delaware Certified Sod and Delaware Certified Seed Programs and includes interpretation and enforcement of the Delaware Seed law. Duties include contacting growers, conducting field inspections, record keeping, regulatory enforcement, and crop sampling as needed. Work is conducted independently in a variety of field and weather conditions in rural areas statewide. Must establish effective working relationships with growers, staff and the public.

Preferred Qualification

Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met.

  1. Experience in production agriculture crops such as wheat, barley, or soybeans to include plant identification, disease identification, or insect identification.  

Essential Functions

  • Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
     
  • Performs statistical analysis of data.
     
  • Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.
     
  • Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
     
  • Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.
  2. Knowledge of controlled sampling, monitoring and testing techniques.
  3. Knowledge of analyzing and evaluating data.
  4. Knowledge of technical report writing.
  5. Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist II
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.
  2. Six months experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
  3. Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  4. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  5. Six months experience in technical report writing. 

Conditions of Hire

As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
