HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT A CAREER COMBINING YOUR LEGAL PROWESS WITH PUBLIC SERVICE?
Understandably, many legal professionals are drawn to private practice. However, for many, the benefits of supporting state government and building a career in public service can be equally—if not more—rewarding.
A career with the State of Delaware may offer:
If these benefits appeal to you as a legal professional, the Delaware Department of Justice may be your employer of choice.
About the Office of the Attorney General
Delaware’s Attorney General—the State’s chief law enforcement officer—has broad responsibility for combating crime, upholding civil rights, safeguarding families, fighting fraud, and protecting consumers in the First State.
To carry out this mission, Attorney General Kathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented attorneys and staff across the Criminal, Civil, Family, Fraud and Consumer Protection, and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions. More than 500 dedicated professionals work together to serve all Delawareans with integrity and passion.
Deputy Attorneys General, supported by criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer protection laws, advise state agencies, ensure public access to open government, protect vulnerable populations, and much more.
The Delaware Department of Justice is seeking an exceptional and highly motivated attorney to join the Consumer Protection Unit within the Fraud & Consumer Protection Division as a Deputy Attorney General (DAG). The selected candidate will be responsible for implementing and enforcing the duties established under Senate Bill 40. Work location is flexible and may be based in New Castle, Kent, or Sussex County.
Senate Bill 40 expands the scope of the Consumer Fraud Act by making certain patterns or practices of violations by landlords of Manufactured Home Communities an unlawful consumer fraud practice. The legislation further authorizes the Attorney General to initiate legal action, including filing petitions in Justice of the Peace Court to establish receiverships of Manufactured Home Communities under specified circumstances.
The Consumer Protection Unit has enforcement authority over more than 40 different state and federal laws, with a focus on the Consumer Fraud Act and the Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act in Title 6 of the Delaware Code. The Consumer Protection Unit prosecutes civil and administrative cases and also conducts multistate investigations in coordination with other states’ attorney general offices.
