Summary Statement

This position will provide a unique opportunity for the selected applicant to gain exposure in many aspects of mosquito control in Delaware. This position will mostly work outdoors under varying weather conditions performing any of the following: routine mosquito breeding surveillance and abatement activities; routine tick surveillance; collect mosquito disease data; address citizen mosquito complaints; conduct public education efforts regarding mosquito control, prevention and disease protection; collect specimens from statewide network of mosquito traps; draw blood and maintain chicken flocks throughout the state for virus surveillance. In addition, this position may involve the operation of boats and tracked all-terrain vehicles.

Essential Functions

  • Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects.
     
  • Collects field samples and data.
     
  • Provides technical information and assistance to the public and the regulated community.
     
  • Interprets rules and regulations for assigned area.
     
  • Reviews permit applications and supplemental paperwork for approval or recommendation for disapproval.
     
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.
     
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
     
  • May assist in processing biological samples.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Control Technician I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of conducting field work to collect samples and survey data.
  2. Knowledge of math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
  3. Knowledge of narrative report writing.
  4. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
