Summary Statement

The Court Administrator/Chief Register in Chancery is responsible for managing the non-judicial administrative operations of the Court, including fiscal management and budget, development of policies and procedures, facilities, and security issues, interpreting court rules, answering questions from the public, conducting research, serving as staff for internal and external committees, and preparation of the court budget.  The Court Administrator/Chief Register in Chancery manages the Register in Chancery offices statewide, serves as the official Clerk of Court, reviews rule changes and implements related procedural changes as required. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to work with the statewide Register of Wills offices, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Court of Chancery. This position is characterized as “confidential” under the Judicial Branch Personnel Rules, which means the Court Administrator/Chief Register in Chancery serves at the pleasure of the Chancellor. The incumbent will be expected to handle additional duties and special projects as required by the Chancellor.   

Preferred Qualification

A degree in business or public administration would be beneficial but is not required.

Job Requirements

  1.  Ability to supervise staff, including organizing, planning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others and the ability to lead support staff in a manner conducive to high morale and productivity.
  2. Ability to develop policies and procedures.
  3. Ability or experience in narrative report writing.
  4. Ability to manage an organization, including fiscal operations, and in developing and implementing solutions to organizational and operational goals.
  5. Knowledge of court operations and procedures.
  6. Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget preparation, analysis, and administration.
  7. Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
  8. Ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  9. Ability to coordinate, oversee, and follow through on work assignments to obtain desired results, including handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
