This position participates in Division of Public Health (DPH) regulatory radiation control program work, performing as an x-ray facility inspector. Duties: performing inspections of all assigned modalities use by healing arts and industrial, educational or research and development practice communities, participating in radiological emergency preparedness on the state Technical Assessment Center team including training, drills, exercises, outreach and contributing to maintaining state capability to respond to real-world radiological emergencies

• Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
   
• Performs statistical analysis of data.
   
• Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.
   
• Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
   
• Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.
2. Knowledge of controlled sampling, monitoring and testing techniques.
3. Knowledge of analyzing and evaluating data.
4. Knowledge of technical report writing.
5. Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
