Introduction

 

The Division of Parks and Recreation oversees more than 26,000 acres in 17 state parks, the Brandywine Zoo and Baynard Stadium. The Division manages 10 nature preserves and 12 other sites outside of the parks. It monitors over 100 conservation easements, protecting more than 4,000 acres. The Division protects cultural and historic resources, and provides a wide variety of recreational facilities for Delawareans and visitors.

Summary Statement

The Marketing Specialist will manage all digital media for Delaware State Parks and assist in coordinating marketing initiatives for the Division of Parks and Recreation.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Responsible for managing content, updates, text, ads, campaigns, and scheduling on a daily basis for all Delaware State Parks social media to include, but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.
  • Creates, coordinates, manages, and tracks all paid advertising across all social media platforms.
  • Tracks results and demographic information from promoted posts and ads to determine effectiveness, and then makes recommendations for future campaigns based on findings.
  • Writes copy and manages all posts for the Delaware State Parks Adventure Blog.
  • Manages all content, layout, and scheduling for the Delaware State Parks monthly e-Newsletter for industry and visitors.
  • Manages all content, layout, and scheduling for the Delaware State Parks quarterly discount e-Newsletter.
  • Tracks Google alerts and determines content to promote when applicable.
  • Assists with photography and videography needs for the Division, including filming promotional videos, photographing events, editing, and leveraging video and photo assets.
  • Assists with the Digital Advertising and Media Budget.
  • Handles miscellaneous parks inquiries (i.e. qualifying calls and inquiries, social media messages, providing information, photo requests, etc.).
  • Creates presentations for outreach and marketing initiatives, and presents initiatives at conferences, events, and community events.
  • Prepares for press events and trade shows with digital media support.
  • Researches and recommends media plans and opportunities.
  • Issues media and press releases in coordination with DNREC Public Relations.
  • Writes copy and editorial for social media, blog, publications, and ads.
  • Assists with all advertising including radio, print, television, etc.
  • Assists in developing, planning and directing public events, campaigns, programs, or services.
  • Assists in coordination with Parks Workshops, Marketing Committee, and seasonal InstaMeets.
  • Assists with promotional events such as ribbon cuttings and launches.
  • Assists in the creation of the Delaware State Parks Visitor Guide.
  • Creates and organizes opportunities to generate new business and partnerships for Delaware State Parks.
  • Fosters an environment that allows for open communication to flow between the field and Central Office.
  • Other duties as required.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Seasonal Marketing Specialist

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in public relations or media relations to establish and promote a positive image and inform or influence specific audiences through the use of internal and external communications such digital media, print or electronic media, writing/editing, marketing, advertising, or special events.
  2. Six months experience managing, maintaining, and updating Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, including paid ads and boosted posts.
  3. Experience in managing and maintaining a social media platform for a brand with a following of at least 1,000.
  4. Six months experience writing copy and editorial for marketing media.
  5. Six months experience in gathering, organizing, formatting, interpreting, or editing information into forms more easily understood by the media or public, and disseminating the information through the use of print, broadcast, or digital media. 
  6. Experience with working trade shows or special events to promote a product or service.
  7. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, primarily with Photoshop.
  8. Knowledge or experience with photography and/or videography.
  9. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
