Summary Statement

The Seasonal Park Patrol Officer positions are responsible for performing law enforcement duties such as patrol operations, crime prevention, public safety, opening and closing facilities, and visitor use management.  Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions.  Some duties may vary for each park.  Applicants must be available to work rotating weekends, overnight shifts, evenings and holidays as scheduled.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Provide protective services to park patrons and staff.
  • Safely navigate sand, dirt trails and asphalt while carrying equipment for an extended amount of time.
  • Perform vehicle and foot patrols of assigned area.
  • Monitor recreational activities in the park.
  • Enforce park rules and regulations.
  • Implement appropriate action in response to complaints, violations or other inappropriate activities including assisting other law enforcement agencies.
  • Provide excellent customer service and park information to visitors.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. At least 18 years of age.
  2. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving)
  3. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  4. Experience in narrative report writing.

Additional Posting Information

Prior to assignment, appointees must successfully complete multiple day trainings which will require physical components. This course is administered by the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and will be held in May, 2021.  Coursework includes but is not limited to report writing, defensive tactics, ethics, rules and regulations, radio procedures, ASP baton, Oleoresin Capsicum spray (Training and Exposure), and first aid/CPR.
