The Delaware Department of State (DOS) seeks to increase the number of applicants for clinical nursing positions at the Veterans Home by offering a recruitment incentive to eligible APN, RN, LPN, and CNA candidates in accordance with the DOS/Veterans Home Recruitment and Referral Incentive Program.

The program provides recruitment incentives as follows:

  • Recruitment incentives are based on the position classification as follows: $6,000 for APNs, $3,500 for RNs, $2,000 for LPNs, and $1,500 for CNAs.  Recruitment incentives will be paid in quarterly installments over the first year of hire and will begin after the first quarter of employment. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with the Veterans Home.
  • Referral bonuses of $1000 are available to current Veterans Home employees who refer new hires in the following classifications APN, RN, LPN, CNA. Referral bonuses of $1000 will be paid in quarterly installments over the first year of hire of the referred applicant.

NOTE: This program is administered by the Department of State/Veterans Home. This program may be terminated by the State at any time.

Summary Statement

This is the advanced level of practical nursing care. Positions report to a technical supervisor. Responsible for the most complex practical nursing assignments. 

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.
  • Administers treatments as directed.
     
  • Takes and records vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration).
     
  • Pours, administers, charts and records medications.
     
  • Gives prescribed intramuscular and subcutaneous injections and inoculations.
     
  • Observes patient behavior and condition and reports changes to appropriate staff. 
     
  • Records information on patients' charts.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Licensed Practical Nurse III
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
  1. Possession of a Delaware Practical Nursing license or multi-state compact license.
  2. At least eighteen months experience as a Practical Nurse.
