Summary Statement

The incumbent in this position oversees daily operations for the Central Offender Records unit.   This unit is responsible for the management of records for all offenders under the supervision of the DOC.   Operations include but are not limited to sentence calculations, intakes, releases and application of good time.   The incumbent manages up to 50 staff members including managing through subordinate managers.   Central Offender Records is a 24/7 unit within the Department.

Essential Functions

  • Develops, directs and oversees the operation of the inmate classification system for Adult Correction.
     
  • Conducts reviews to insure the compliance of all institutions with inmate classification procedures.
     
  • Conducts research, and makes continuous assessment of the effectiveness of the inmate classification system; identifies problem areas and determines corrective action.
     
  • Provides consultation to administrative and program staff in matters regarding inmate classification.
     
  • Works with department training staff to develop and coordinate instructional programs in inmate classification materials and records.
     
  • Oversees the maintenance of inmate classification materials and records.
     
  • Prepares reports, contracts, and writes federal grant proposals.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Inmate Classification Administrator
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Three years experience in interacting with criminal justice organizations such as law enforcement, courts, corrections, parole boards, community groups, or local governments.
  2. Three years experience in planning, developing, directing, implementing and overseeing the operations of an inmate classification system.
  3. Three years experience in ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards for secured facilities.
  4. Six months experience in narrative report writing.
