Summary Statement

The incumbent in this position sets up the resident/staff serving lines with foods and supplies for daily meals. The incumbent will prepare meals by dipping the correct portion of appropriate foods from the serving line.  When meals are completed, food carts are retrieved so that all equipment can be cleaned and sanitized for the next meal.  Food Service Workers prepare a variety of foods for the resident meals.  Sanitation is also performed daily to comply with the Delaware Food Code.

Essential Functions

  • Sets up serving line by gathering utensils, foods and supplies needed for the serving process.
     
  • Prepares meal trays by dipping the correct portion of appropriate foods from the serving pan.
     
  • Loads completed meal trays or food pans into food carts; Delivers loaded carts to proper location; Returns carts and trays to kitchen after individuals have completed meals.
     
  • Assists cooks by opening cans, slicing and chopping food items, making sandwiches, bulk salads, desserts or preparing beverages.
     
  • Cleans carts and trash containers, sweeps and mops floors, wipes tables, steam carts and counters and performs other functions necessary to ensure that food preparation and serving areas are sanitary.
     
  • Performs all phases of dishwashing process.
     
  • Keeps various records.

Conditions of Hire

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

Upon a conditional offer, the applicant must undergo a pre-employment base line two step tuberculin skin test (TST) as part of the hiring process. 

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization).  The candidate selected for this position shall be asked to join and pay dues to the labor organization or may, decline joining the labor organization and not pay dues or a fee.  The labor organization has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other work related purposes.
