Summary Statement

This position will process wetlands and subaqueous lands permit applications according to State and Wetlands Regulations and other guidance used by this office. Other duties will include advising applicants on methods to minimize environmental impacts for proposed projects subject to this Section's jurisdiction; providing expertise related to wetlands and stream restoration projects related to hydrology, soils and flora for inter-agency projects and providing general program information to the public and business community.

Preferred Qualification

Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met.

  1. Six months experience in the application of GIS or GPS systems in Natural Resource Management.
  2. Knowledge of hydrology, wetland sciences, marine science or coastal processes.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
     
  • Performs statistical analysis of data.
     
  • Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.
     
  • Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
     
  • Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist IV
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Masters degree or higher in an environmentally related scientific discipline OR Bachelors degree or higher in an environmentally related scientific discipline and current professional certification.
  2. Possession of scientific prominence or recognition with publication in a scientific or trade journal.
  3. Three years experience in environmental or natural resources project management which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating environmental or natural resources projects to ensure objectives are met.
  4. Three years experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
  5. Three years experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
