Summary Statement

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining the Pesticides sections Certification and Training program. This involves review and approval of pesticide training courses and entry into database, writing of pesticide certification exams, conducting training classes with applicators and prospective applicators, and proctoring and grading of examinations. The incumbent is responsible for advising and assisting farmers and agri-businesses regarding compliance with environmental and pollution control statutes and regulations. The incumbent will also conduct deer damage audits.

Essential Functions

  • Organizes and conducts a program to assist farmers and agri-businesses in understanding and complying with environmental and pollution control laws and regulations.
     
  • Consults with and advises farmers and agri-businesses on compliance with state and federal environmental laws and regulations related to pollution affecting the farming community.
     
  • Maintains liaison with regulatory agencies, commercial and community organizations, educational institutions, and local governments regarding environmental programs as it relates to agriculture.
     
  • Develops and presents educational workshops and seminars and prepares articles, pamphlets and other educational materials.
     
  • Assists pesticides section with the Pesticides Certification and Education Program.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Agricultural Specialist
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in pesticide application and safety standards.
  2. Six months experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  3. Six months experience in presenting training courses using a variety of training methods such as lecture, structured exercises, role play or group discussion as well as the use of training materials such as overheads, PowerPoint, handouts or videos.
  4. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
