DelDOT is Now Offering Sign-on Bonuses for Engineers!

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) recognizes its Engineers are a highly valued resource and play a critical role in ensuring the State’s infrastructure is safe, reliable, dependable, and sustainable.  For that reason we are now providing monetary recruitment incentives to new DelDOT Engineers in accordance to our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.

The program provides recruitment incentives as follows:

Sign-On Bonus– Incentives are based on the position classification:

  • $2,000 Engineer I
  • $3,000 Engineer II
  • $4,000 Engineer III
  • $5,000 Engineer IV

Incentives are paid in two installments. One installment after three months of employment and the second installment after eighteen months from the initial date of employment.  New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DelDOT in the Engineer I-IV series.  Must be a new hire to the State of Delaware or new to the Engineer classification series within the State of Delaware

Summary Statement

This Engineer will be the Special Expedited Approval Logistics Team Traffic Impact Study (TIS) Engineer.  The position will be the traffic engineer to support and provide an expedited review and approval of development plans that provide economic development opportunities throughout the state. The position in the Division of Planning, Development Coordination Section, will be responsible for the traffic engineering and analysis review of high profile projects important to Delaware's economy.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.  Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.
  • Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.
     
  • Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
     
  • Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
     
  • Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
     
  • Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities.
     
  • Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
     
  • Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
     
  • Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.
     
  • Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.

Job Requirement Series

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer I

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
 

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree (or have an anticipated graduation date within 9 months) in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering or official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination in Civil Engineering administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer II
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering or official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination in Civil Engineering administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
  2. At least one year experience in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering OR possession of a Masters degree or higher in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.

 JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer III
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering or official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination in Civil Engineering administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
  2. At least four years experience in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
  3. Knowledge of engineering project management which includes planning, scheduling, staffing, coordinating, controlling, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the status of engineering projects.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer IV
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a valid Delaware Professional Engineering License OR Possession of a valid Professional Engineering license issued by a proper authority of a state, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia, or a province or territory of Canada.
  2. At least five years experience in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
  3. Six months experience in engineering project management which includes planning, scheduling, staffing, coordinating, controlling, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the status of engineering projects.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  DelDOT does not provide employment-based sponsorship.
