Summary Statement

This position performs research and historic documentation in support of the Cultural Heritage program, historic architectural and archaeological investigations, and technical report writing and editing.  The position assists with content development for park website and social media pages and will participate in occasional public speaking with small audiences.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct research utilizing on-line tools and printed materials, maps, pictures, field surveys, and oral histories.
  • Organize data in preparation of technical reports, historic evaluations and historic documentation, including file management, scanning and copying.
  • Photographic documentation, including processing and formatting digital files.
  • Reorganize the Resident Curatorship program including recruitment of potential curators, review of applications, and program consultation with potential and existing curators by applying knowledge of suitable historic preservation principles including the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties (and associated Guidelines).
  • Assist with development of park history content for Division website.
  • Deliver cultural heritage programs to participants of all ages in a variety of contexts.
  • This position is statewide and may travel to different Park sites each day.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Other duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Seasonal Naturalist

  1. Must be 18 years of age.
  2. Six months experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.
  3. Knowledge of natural, cultural, historical resources or parks and recreation.
  4. Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
  5. Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Conditions of Hire

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  DNREC does not provide sponsorship for holders of H-1 B Visas.

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
