Summary Statement

The Delaware State Parks Conservation Corps (DSPCC) Veterans Corps is an AmeriCorps national service program engaging military veterans and/or military family members for a year of service. The Veterans Corps Team Leader will lead a team of 5 Veterans and/or military family members. Team members will engage in environmental stewardship and trail projects throughout Delaware State Parks. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions.  The Team Leader will coordinate activities with DSPCC Veterans Corps Program Director and work alongside a professional staff of Conservation Technicians, Field Biologists, Environmental Stewardship team members, and Trails crew.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Provides daily supervision and guidance to a team of 5 Veterans Corps members.
  • Coordinates work, educational and volunteer activities.
  • Designs and implements community service projects.
  • Completes all AmeriCorps requirements.
  • Completes necessary reports and administrative forms.
  • Transports team to work locations.
  • Assists with land management plan to maintain the park’s natural areas, trails, meadows and shoreline.
  • Assists with native and invasive plant survey and identification.
  • Conducts invasive species control using mechanical or chemical control methods.
  • Participates in trail maintenance and/or trail reconstruction/constructions projects.
  • Performs litter, waterway, and shoreline cleanup.
  • Assists Conservation Technicians with grounds work throughout the park.
  • Assists with natural disaster response within Delaware or nationwide.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Performs other related work as required.

  1. Knowledge of supervising staff or volunteers.

  3. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Additional Posting Information

Boots, work shirts, protective equipment and tools will be provided.  

Preference is given to military veterans and military family members.

Conditions of Hire

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  DNREC does not provide sponsorship for holders of H-1 B Visas.

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
