Summary Statement

As a Senior Lean Coach this position works with divisions to drive process improvement visibility and awareness; leads and mentors Lean projects; works with management to prioritize projects, define business need and implement innovative solutions; determines costs, benefits and return on investment on short-term and long term process changes.  Establishes and executes a calendar of Kaizen events and projects that maximizes the leverage of agency Continuous Improvement resources.  Trains, coaches and mentors others at all organizational levels to apply Continuous Improvement objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Lead and facilitate teams through collaborative engagements that identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Identification, prioritization and selection of potential projects in all functional areas of the agency.
  • Improve service and productivity through the reduction of waste and defects in government processes.
  • Lead and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Transfer knowledge to team members in the Agency to build a continuous improvement culture and develop the Lean Six Sigma skill set.
  • Identify, develop and monitor metrics that best manage the organization.
  • Report to Department Management as required on progress of projects.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Engineering or Business Administration, or a related field.
  2. At least five years of relevant business or project management experience required, demonstrating the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
  3. Experience in applying Lean or Process Improvement in an office or service environments.
  4. Experience in leading Kaizen events and Lean or Process Improvement Implementation projects.  
  5. Experience in applying change management /change leadership theory, technology and practices to build capacity and successfully manage change in an organization.
  6. Experience in value stream mapping.
  7. Experience implementing tools and techniques that engage front line employees in a Continuous Improvement culture.
  8. Experience with common statistical software packages for business process analysis.
