Incumbent in this class supervises staff responsible for conducting civil rights work requiring the application of state and federal employment discrimination laws, regulations, and EEOC enforcement guidance. The purpose of the position is to support the department's mission to eradicate illegal workplace discrimination through investigation, mediation, and educational outreach.

- Plans, assigns, reviews and evaluates work of subordinates and provides technical guidance in accomplishing assignments.
- Provides technical guidance to staff regarding the methods of handling cases.
- Reviews case records and monthly reports prepared by staff for conformance to investigative procedures, accuracy of content, timeliness and validity of findings, returns incorrect documents to staff for revision.
- Conducts investigations in the most difficult cases; analyzes data to determine whether or not a statutory violation occurred; determines the most appropriate measures to enforce compliance.
- May review Industrial Accident Board decisions/awards issued prior to disbursement to ensure correct citations/legal issues and to verify correct award amounts; controls and monitors the second injury and contingency fund regarding petitions to terminate in order to reduce the number of claimants receiving benefits from the fund.
- Provides input on unit workflow, record keeping and operating procedures.
- Researches and analyzes the impact of proposed/existing state and federal legislation on agency operations; prepares reports of findings and recommendations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Labor Law Enforcement Supervisor
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- Two years experience in conducting investigations which includes conducting interviews to obtain confidential information, gathering evidence and documenting findings.
- One year experience in resolving labor law or employment discrimination complaints.
- One year experience in interpreting labor or employment laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
- Six months experience in narrative report writing.
- Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work, academic training, training provided through an employer, or performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others; OR supervising staff which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees.
