Summary Statement

The incumbent develops and implements a musical therapy program which utilizes rhythms, sounds, and instruments to interact with clients who have a mental health diagnosis.  This allows the incumbent to engage with all clients in a safe, healthy, and musical environment.  The musical instruments, such as guitars, drums and a piano are forms of expression client's use in the groups.  The group's discussions center on wellness, stress management and non-verbal expression of emotions using musical instruments.  The incumbent will supervise interns and practicum students.

Essential Functions

  • Administers treatment, applying knowledge of applicable therapy discipline. 
     
  • Plans and prepares written treatment plans based on evaluation of individual's data.
     
  • Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatment to achieve maximum benefit.
  • Instructs, motivates and assists individuals in performance of various activities and use of support devices.
      
  • Instructs individuals, their families and other treatment staff in treatment procedures.
       
  • Prepares records and reports on individual's progress.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Therapist III
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher.
  2. At least two years experience providing professional therapy services.
  3. Possession of the following certification:
  • Certified Music Therapist by the Certified Board for Music Therapists or eligible for certification.

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
