The Division of Parks and Recreation oversees more than 26,000 acres in 17 state parks, the Brandywine Zoo. The Division manages 10 nature preserves and 12 other sites outside of the parks, and monitors over 100 conservation easements protecting more than 4,000 acres. The Division protects cultural and historic resources, and provides a wide variety of recreational facilities for Delawareans and visitors.

Summary Statement

This position assists the Retail Sales Program Manager with the Delaware State Parks Retail Program. This includes merchandising, procurement and inventory management for all retail products for campground stores, nature stores and retail locations within state parks. The position assists in training park staff selling retail products using Point of Sale (POS). The incumbent will update and process POS functions.  The incumbent must analyze and respond to market trends in retail products for state park visitors, and work with the Division Marketing team on sales initiatives. The incumbent will meet with vendors to evaluate quality and pricing for purchase. The incumbent will travel throughout the State and to trade-shows/events as key representative/operator of DE State Parks Traveling Retail Store.

Essential Functions

  • All functions of POS for retail sales operations.
  • Order retail merchandise for sale.
  • Conduct retail inventory and audits.
  • Train staff in retail functions/operations.
  • Process purchase orders, credit card transactions and logs for expenditures; adhere to budget.
  • Assist with retail marketing; merchandising of inventory for best sales practices.
  • Responsible for managing cash drawers and end of day sales reconciliations.
  • Assist in new store start-up’s.
  • Responsible for Delaware State Parks traveling retail store operations (requires travel).
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as required

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in conducting studies or performing analysis on sales projections and market trends.
  2. Six months experience in retail procurement.
  3. Six months experience in inventory management.
  4. One year experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets or databases.
  5. Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
