Introduction

 

The Division of Water monitors, manages and protects both surface water and ground water in Delaware. The Division includes an EPA- and FDA-certified environmental laboratory and oversees permitting and regulatory programs to manage the treatment and disposal of wastewater, both on the land and into surface waters.

Summary Statement

This position serves as a liaison with the public, enforcing regulations, policies, procedures and management of all well permits throughout the State. The position requires field work of all facets of well construction, working closely with staff hydrologists, Delaware municipalities, and water service providers on complex permitting issues. The incumbent works closely with DNREC Environmental Crimes Unit to identify and solve well construction violations.

  • Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects.
     
  • Collects field samples and data.
     
  • Provides technical information and assistance to the public and the regulated community.
     
  • Interprets rules and regulations for assigned area.
     
  • Reviews permit applications and supplemental paperwork for approval or recommendation for disapproval.
     
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.
     
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
     
  • May assist in processing biological samples.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Control Technician III 
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: 

  1. Six months experience in conducting field work to collect environmental or ecological samples and survey data.
  2. Six months experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
  3. Six months experience in math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
  4. Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  5. Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  6. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  7. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
