Summary Statement

This position serves as Medical Director for the Division of Public Health (DPH) and oversees implementation of standing orders.   Duties include: making regular visits to clinic sites supporting quality improvement, overseeing DPH Laboratory, Epidemiology, Infectious Disease Prevention and Control as Section Chief, overseeing special projects as needed, and being lead for Human Subjects Review Board and strategic partnership with the medical community.

  • Provides Medical expertise in the areas of family services, infectious diseases, and immunizations
  • Provides Public Health expertise in the area of  epidemiology
  • Provides medical direction across the division
  • Oversees implementation of standing orders – this entails regular visits to clinic sites and supporting quality improvement and regular collaboration with DOE/school nurses
  • Oversees Epidemiology
  • Medical Director for Public Health Lab
  • Performs as the lead for Human Subject reviews at DPH
  • Provides training for DPH health professionals
  • Provides institutional medical knowledge
  • Provides guidance for contract negotiations with Insurance Carriers
  • Strategic partner lead for medical community – this includes taking the lead on collaborative projects such as antibiotic stewardship

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Medical Director

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Delaware Physician M.D. or Delaware Physician D.O. license or eligibility for a Delaware license.
  2. Experience in health or human services program administration such as overseeing and directing the development, implementation and evaluation of health or human services programs and services; planning and establishing short and long range program goals and objectives. Providing advice to other agency organizational units through consultation.
  3. Experience in developing policies and procedures.
  4. Experience in practicing medicine in a hospital, clinic or private practice.
