Summary Statement

The incumbent in this position is responsible for supervising the work of the security staff in ensuring the protection of State property from trespass, theft, and other hazardous conditions. The incumbent will also protect the residents and employees at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill.

Essential Functions

  • Plans, assigns, coordinates, reviews and evaluates the work of security staff.
     
  • Attends institutional staff meetings and participates in or conducts seminars/conferences relative to institutional security and safety.
     
  • Makes recommendations on disciplinary measures to be taken against violators.
     
  • Investigates reports of violations of institutional regulation and advises superior of the results.
     
  • Periodically reviews institutional security procedures to ensure that they are adequate and applicable to current organizational needs.
     
  • Maintains logs, diaries, records and reports relative to institutional security.
     
  • Makes announced and unannounced inspections of the security personnel and facilities to ensure that policies are carried out.
     
  • May locate and confiscate contraband notifying appropriate authorities.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Security Officer Supervisor
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in security such as providing protective services to persons, facilities or grounds from trespassing, theft and other conditions.
  2. Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  3. Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  4. Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work, academic training, training provided through an employer, or performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others; OR supervising staff which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees.
  5. Possession of a valid Driver’s License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.    

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Upon a conditional offer, the applicant must undergo a pre-employment base line two step tuberculin skin test (TST) as part of the hiring process.

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization).  The candidate selected for this position shall be asked to join and pay dues to the labor organization or may, decline joining the labor organization and not pay dues or a fee.  The labor organization has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other work related purposes.
