Introduction

DNREC's Delaware Mosquito Control Section provides statewide services to more than 900,000 residents and more than 7 million visitors annually to maintain quality of life and protect public health by reducing the possibility of mosquito-borne illnesses, such as West Nile virus.

Summary Statement

The primary function of this position is the collection of tick specimens from field locations throughout state, utilizing various mechanisms of collection. Work will primarily be conducted in a field setting, or in an office/lab in preparation for field work or processing samples. Identifying collected ticks to species using a microscope and data entry will also be required duties of this position. Work experience may contribute toward authorship of a scientific paper.

  • Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects.
     
  • Collects field samples and data.
     
  • Provides technical information and assistance to the public and the regulated community.
     
  • Interprets rules and regulations for assigned area.
     
  • Reviews permit applications and supplemental paperwork for approval or recommendation for disapproval.
     
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.
     
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
     
  • May assist in processing biological samples.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Control Technician I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of conducting field work to collect samples and survey data.
  2. Knowledge of math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
  3. Knowledge of narrative report writing.
  4. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
