Summary Statement

The incumbent works in the Health Integration & Social Determinants Bureau serving individuals with severe persistent mental illness and substance use disorders.  The incumbent serves as a supervisor and point-of-contact for Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health’s Utilization Review Unit. The Utilization Review team assists in review, referral and placement of individuals requiring inpatient hospitalization, residential treatment and outpatient treatment.  Work includes developing staff and community education programs; preparing reports and summaries in support of program planning, organization and implementation. Incumbent may be required to work occasional off hour shifts.

  • Provides or evaluates direct nursing care.
     
  • Develops, implements and/or reviews nursing care plans.
     
  • Provides health care instruction and guidance to individuals, families, community groups and/or nursing home facilities in the management of their health care needs.
     
  • Maintains an effective working relationship with other members of the treatment team.
     
  • Prepares and submits records, reports, evaluations and forms. 
     
  • Participates in and make recommendations regarding quality assurance activities. 

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Nursing Supervisor
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. At least three years experience as a Registered Nurse in Psychiatric Nursing OR a Bachelors degree or higher in Nursing and at least two years experience as a Registered Nurse in Psychiatric Nursing OR a Masters degree or higher in Nursing and at least one year experience as a Registered Nurse in Psychiatric Nursing.
  2. Possession of a Delaware Registered Nurse license OR multi-state compact license.
  3. Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work, academic training, training provided through an employer, or performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others; OR supervising staff which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees.
