Introduction

 

DNREC's Mosquito Control Section provides mosquito control services throughout Delaware. During the warmer months, Mosquito Control monitors and treats mosquito populations that emerge from wetland areas found throughout the state, including ditches, stormwater ponds, wet woodlands, and coastal salt marshes.

Summary Statement

This position will provide a unique opportunity for the selected applicant to gain exposure in many aspects of mosquito control in Delaware.  Employees in this position will largely work outdoors under varying weather conditions to accomplish the goals of modern mosquito control program under well-defined guidelines.  This includes but is not limited to: routine larval/adult mosquito surveillance and control (using insecticides), data collection, addressing citizen mosquito complaints, drawing blood and maintaining chicken flocks throughout the state for virus surveillance, collecting mosquito disease data, deploying/servicing/collecting mosquito trap data, and possible operation of boats/ATV's.

  • Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects.
     
  • Collects field samples and data.
     
  • Provides technical information and assistance to the public and the regulated community.
     
  • Interprets rules and regulations for assigned area.
     
  • Reviews permit applications and supplemental paperwork for approval or recommendation for disapproval.
     
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.
     
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
     
  • May assist in processing biological samples.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Control Technician I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of conducting field work to collect samples and survey data.
  2. Knowledge of math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
  3. Knowledge of narrative report writing.
  4. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
