Summary Statement

This position develops, organizes and facilitates interpretive programming for school/group field trips and public programs at the DuPont Nature Center (DNC) as well as interacts with nature center visitors, assists with special events at the DNC and develops educational information, print media, displays and exhibits. Job duties also include assisting with the care and maintenance of aquariums and live aquatic species.  Work may be performed outdoors under various weather conditions.

Essential Functions

  • Provides educational material and technical information to groups and students.  
  • Provides educational material and programs about fishing techniques, safety and equipment. 
  • Maintains program equipment and materials.
  • Provides general customer service and information to visitors.
  • Assists with special events and outreach programs.
  • May assist with drafting social media posts.
  • May assist in overseeing the work of volunteers.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor setting with large amount of walking.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability, professionalism and good communication skills, and interact as a team member with other staff and volunteers.
  • Maintains a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Experience working with children and young adults such as academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant or education teacher.
  2. Six months experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, Excel or Publisher.
  3. Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
  4. Knowledge of Aquatic or Environmental Science.
  5. Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
