Summary Statement

Primary responsibilities include educating visitors to Fort Delaware, including school groups and other organized groups as well as the general public, on the importance of bats, the effect of White-nose Syndrome on bats and what people can do to help protect bats. Position will include escorting people through parts of the fort where bats hibernate and making sure that park visitors are aware of rules, guidelines and ways they can help protect bats. Position will also be responsible for maintaining decontamination equipment and keeping decontamination stations clean and well-stocked, and maintaining records and reports detailing daily activities (both manually and electronically). Other duties may include assisting park visitors and helping with other wildlife projects as needed. In the spring and fall may also assist with other wildlife projects. Time around boats and water will be required because the fort is on an island.

  • Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects.
     
  • Collects field samples and data.
     
  • Provides technical information and assistance to the public and the regulated community.
     
  • Interprets rules and regulations for assigned area.
     
  • Reviews permit applications and supplemental paperwork for approval or recommendation for disapproval.
     
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.
     
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
     
  • May assist in processing biological samples.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Control Technician I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of conducting field work to collect samples and survey data.
  2. Knowledge of math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
  3. Knowledge of narrative report writing.
  4. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
