The land that became Alapocas Run State Park was donated to the city of Wilmington in the early 1900s by local industrialist William Bancroft. Alapocas Run became a state park in 2002.

A variety of seasonal park maintenance positions may be available at Alapocas Run State Park:
These Seasonal Park Maintenance positions will be responsible for assisting full-time maintenance staff with all aspects of maintaining the park grounds, athletic fields, and facilities. This will include, but not be limited to, mowing grass, weeding and mulching landscape beds, pruning/trimming, painting projects, athletic field maintenance, picking up and removing trash, cleaning restrooms, the cleaning and repair of structures, and participation in projects involving carpentry, and welding work.
Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.
