JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineer I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Possession of a Bachelors degree (or have an anticipated graduation date within 9 months) in Civil Engineering or official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination in Civil Engineering administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
As a condition of hire the successful applicant must agree as a requirement of employment to
attend and successfully pass the National Highway Institute (NHI) Two-Week Comprehensive
Bridge Safety Inspection Course within one year of employment (course will be paid for by the
Department).
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. DelDOT does not provide employment-based sponsorship.
Pre-employment Drug Testing: Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.
Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
As a condition of hire you must possess a valid CDL Class B driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving) or obtain one during the initial probationary period.
As a condition of hire, the applicant will be required to log into the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMSCA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and provide electronic consent for the Department to conduct a query checking if the applicant is prohibited from operating commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) due to an unresolved drug and alcohol program violation. Applicants with a current and valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) must consent during the pre-employment screening process. Applicants who obtain their CDL within the first 90 days of employment must consent at the time the CDL is obtained.
