Summary Statement

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for the repair, installation and preventive maintenance of adaptive equipment, medical equipment and medical devices, maintaining databases for inventory and preventive maintenance, assisting with requests for specialized seat cushions and seating consultations with the Physical Therapy Departments. They will also work with Nursing Departments and Physical Therapy Departments to evaluate, develop and deploy safety plans for adaptive equipment, medical equipment and medical devices.  And assists in the operation of the Adaptive Equipment Department, which involves the financial management of equipment, supplies, materials and maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies and materials, and researches and engineer new equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees the operation of a wheelchair shop which involves overseeing the budget for supplies and materials, maintaining an inventory of wheelchair parts and ordering/purchasing supplies, materials and equipment.
     
  • Interacts with a variety of outside vendors and distributors for supplies and materials.
     
  • Establishes and maintains a preventative maintenance schedule for all wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs, and scooters.
     
  • Researches and engineers new equipment.
     
  • Designs and constructs adaptive equipment for clients/patients upon recommendation of other staff.
     
  • Provides in-service training to staff on the use and care of wheelchairs.
     
  • Prepares a variety to records and reports.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Adaptive Equipment Technician II
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in constructing, repairing and modifying wheelchairs and adaptive equipment.
  2. Six months experience in record keeping.

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire. 

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization).  The candidate selected for this position shall be asked to join and pay dues to the labor organization or may, decline joining the labor organization and not pay dues or a fee.  The labor organization has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other work related purposes.

Upon a conditional offer, the applicant must undergo a pre-employment base line two step tuberculin skin test (TST) as part of the hiring process.
