Summary Statement

These scientists for the Wetland and Subaqueous Lands Section will evaluate applications, process permits, and perform related compliance and investigation of complaints, enforcement, and remediation of violations.  Other duties will include advising applicants on methods to minimize environmental impacts for proposed projects subject to this Section's jurisdiction; providing expertise related to wetlands and subaqueous lands for inter-agency projects and providing general program information to the public and business community.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
     
  • Performs statistical analysis of data.
     
  • Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.
     
  • Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
     
  • Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist II
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.
  2. Six months experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
  3. Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  4. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  5. Six months experience in technical report writing.
