Summary Statement

The Delaware Department of Transportation is seeking hardworking individuals for employment from early May through August for the 2021 Summer Maintenance Program! Under direct supervision, students will perform various duties that are directly related to their selected classification. Because the positions work outside, there may be instances when work will occur in adverse weather conditions. Opportunities exist in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties.

 

Non-CDL Equipment Operator

Performs a variety of manual work duties such as unloading trucks, cleaning culverts, erecting signs, repairing guide rails/barriers, cutting grass/brush, digging ditches, and assisting crews.

 

Conservation Technician

Assists in seasonal maintenance and custodial services at roadside rest facilities. Students may also perform laboring duties in maintenance organizations and at highway worksites.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Equipment Operator/Conservation Technician

  1. Must be a high school student or college student enrolled (or intending to enroll) on a full-time basis in a 2 or 4-year post-secondary education program for the fall semester.
  2. In good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher)
  3. Be at least 16 years of age.
  4. Special Requirement: Certain positions may require possession of a valid Driver's License.
  5. Furnish a current unofficial transcript from an accredited college, report card, or unofficial report card to State of Delaware Department of Transportation by close of business on  March 31, 2021 (fax: 302-760-2771, email: deldot_emp_services@state.de.us, or mail to: Delaware Dept. of Transportation,  PO Box 778, Dover, DE 19903).

Conditions of Hire

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  DelDOT does not provide employment-based sponsorship.

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.    

As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
