Summary Statement

This position is responsible for supporting staff in the maintenance of the buildings and grounds at one of Delaware’s oldest state parks, Fort Delaware State Park.  This position will assist in the trades field including, electrical work, HVAC maintenance, plumbing, vehicle/equipment maintenance, boat maintenance, and general carpentry which includes working on and around historic structures, park owned vessels, and preventative maintenance on various equipment. This position may also be asked to supervise daily seasonal work crews and tasks.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all position in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.  Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks throughout new and historic buildings.
  • Identify possible projects to improve the park and communicate this with management.
  • Conduct walks throughout the day to monitor safety, learn and apply basic skills and trains by gaining experience in various types of buildings.
  • Safely and properly, operate Fort Delaware State Park (FDSP) maintenance equipment as required.
  • Assist in electrical and plumbing maintenance.
  • Work on park projects and equipment as assigned or required.
  • Perform routine maintenance on park owned vessels, which are essential to the parks operation.
  • Coordinate maintenance issues with FDSP maintenance staff as required and assist as needed.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:  

  1. Possession of a Delaware Journeyperson or higher Electrician license OR possession of a Journeyperson or higher Electrician license from another state which meets Delaware license requirements or equivalent requirements as determined by the State Board of Electrical Examiners.
  2. Six months experience in performing work in a variety of trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC.
  3. Six months experience in record keeping.
  4. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
